RIO DE JANEIRO | IGUASSU FALLS | SALVADOR (BAHIA)

DAY 1 | USA | RIO DE JANEIRO
Depart the USA on your flight to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

DAY 2 | ARRIVE RIO DE JANEIRO
Arrive in Rio, the pulsating “sun and fun” capital of South America; meeting and transfer to your hotel. Remainder of the day at leisure to discover famous Copacabana Beach.

DAY 3 | RIO DE JANEIRO
Morning drive via Rio’s most famous beaches followed by a visit to famous Corcovado Mountain. A short cogwheel train ride through lush vegetation takes you to the base of the landmark statue of “Christ the Redeemer;” see the spectacular 360-degree panoramic view of the entire city. Then, lunch at a local restaurant before ascending to Sugar Loaf Mountain, dramatically rising from the bay. See magnificent views of the city, beaches and bay as the cable car ride takes you to its summit. (B, L)

DAY 4 | RIO DE JANEIRO
Today, a Jeep tour through the lush Tijuca National Forest emphasizes the differences between the city and the surrounding natural environment. Tijuca is the world’s largest rainforest within a city limits – waterfalls, tropical birds and hiking trail are there to explore. Afternoon at leisure or an optional visit to H. Stern’s world headquarters in Ipanema; witness the fascinating process of jewel creation. Right before your eyes, metal and rough stones are transformed into works of art, luxury and design by the hands of talented artisans. Tonight, a festive dinner at a traditional Churrascaria (Brazilian Barbecue restaurant). (B, D)

DAY 5| RIO DE JANEIRO | IGUASSU FALLS
Morning transfer to the airport for your flight to Iguassu Falls, on the border of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay – one of the world’s greatest natural wonders. Meeting and transfer to your hotel. Then, walk on the Brazilian side of the Falls, spanning three miles and containing over 275 individual cataracts. Afternoon at leisure to enjoy all of the hotel’s facilities and relax at the pool, surrounded by lush tropical gardens. (B)

DAY 6 | IGUASSU FALLS
Today, an extensive visit to the awe-inspiring Falls, including a walking tour on the Argentinean side. While the Brazilian side offers the best panoramic views, the Argentine side offers a more up-close-and personal view. Stop at Devil’s Throat, the most magnificent of the cataracts; time to view and photograph the thundering waters. In the afternoon, after lunch, board a specially built raft, which takes you on a thrilling ride upstream and as close to the waterfalls as safety permits. What an adventure! Return to the Brazilian side for overnight. (B, L)

DAY 7 | IGUASSU FALLS | SALVADOR (BAHIA)
After a tropical breakfast at the hotel, transfer to the airport for your flight to Salvador (Bahia), situated on the Northeast part of Brazil, considered the cultural and spiritual capital of the country. Once Brazil’s original colonial capital, Salvador (Bahia) is blessed with a near-perfect climate and unspoiled beaches. Its dance and music reflect the city’s African influence. Afternoon at leisure. DAY 8 | SALVADOR
Morning visit to the Old Quarter of the city; view historical relics, religious art; continue to colorful Pelourinho, a significant complex of colonial baroque architecture. Afternoon is at leisure – heighten your senses with the sights, sounds and unique cuisine of this magical city. (B)

DAY 9 | SALVADOR
A day for rest and relaxation on one of the great bays of the world. Board a schooner and cruise to Frades Island; time to swim in the sparkling waters. Then, a short crossing to larger Itaparica Island. After lunch, time to enjoy the beach or take an optional tour to the colonial town of Itaparica before returning to Salvador by boat. Tonight, treat yourself to the endless sounds and colors of the Afro-Brazilian tradition, at the Miguel de Santana Show, including a typical dinner (closed Sun & Tue). (B, L, D)
